Why the Americans Progress.

The Greeks in the old country, and unfortunately some of us here, criticize those that work in law trades and vocations maintaining that it is not proper, and within the dignity and special standing of a person, to do manual labor. The so called Purists forgot the famous saying of Socrates. "Work of any kind is not a shame, idleness is a shame."
The democratic and progressive spirit of our adopted country could be depicted by the following, example. The son of the president of the Greet Northern R. R. Company, began to work as a common laborer to acquire experience which would be useful to him later.
