September 3, Sunday, 4 P. M., at St. Kokosz Hall, 749 W. 18th St., Lithuanian musicians will hold their second meeting. All Lithuanian musicians from all parts of Chicago should not fail to come, as at this meeting there will be organized a band of Lithuanian musicians only.
Brothers, this band is an excellent project! Remember that there are in Chicago many good Lithuanian musicians who served in the Russian army musicians' band and they are very good players.
All of you know that nobody can beat the Russian Army Band. And with such musicians we can make one of the best bands in Chicago.
The Lithuanian musicians, today play in German, Polish, and other bands, from which they derive no national benefit as they simply are helping to make good bands for other nations.
2For instance, when the Society of the Province of God had its ball, who were the players at this ball? Why, the Poles! If we could have had our Lithuanian band, this society would not hire Polish musicians.
Same thing with the Society of Duke Gedeminas. This society, once in a while, has its banquets and hires musicians of other nationalities. Would it not be very nice if we Lithuanians had our own band? Would Lithuanians not be proud that in parades with other nations, Lithuanians would have their own band.
We are telling you, that we Lithuanians, with our band could beat any band in America. You must remember that many of us Lithuanian musicians served in the Russian Army Band. Who can beat the Russian Army Band? Nobody!
No matter what instrument you play, come to this meeting, here, and we will organize a Lithuanian band and orchestra.

It is well known that in Chicago there are many Lithuanians musicians who play various instruments. Many such Lithuanians are good players, but they are playing in Polish, Jewish, German, and other bands. Such Lithuanians do nothing good for themselves or for Lithuania as a whole. They simply are helping with their abilities to make bands of other nationalities famous.
Any one that knows a Lithuanian playing any instrument or is a player himself, or belongs to any society, give his name and address to the editor of Lietuva. We must have our own Lithuanian band, and we can have a good band because there are many good players among Lithuanians.
Our societies have their concerts, banquets, dances, they always are hiring the bands of other nationalities. We Lithuanians must have our own band, and our band must play on our societies' balls and dances. Why pay money to the bands of other nationalities when we can have our own and much better band?

We Lithuanians were oppressed in our mother country, we had no chance or opportunity to get education but in this country we can open our own schools, to educate our children and even ourselves.

The Chicago Lithuanian community is young. During the last two years they have shown real activity among themselves. We must say, that the Chicago Lithuanians accomplished more than the Lithuanians of any other city, where they had been living for the last few scores of years.
We have eleven Lithuanian societies, nine societies of men, two societies of women, and a cluster of the Lithuanian Catholic Alliance of America.
Of those mentioned societies, we have among them three best societies: one is the Simonas Daukantas society which has its own library; society of the Grand Army of the Duke Vytantas, has uniforms and can participate in any parade; and the society of musicians can go on parades, play on concerts and festivals.
We have eight Lithuanian political clubs organized into the league as a 2result of political activity a few Lithuanians have the city jobs.
On Bridgeport we have a church and fourteen lots. Now, north side Lithuanians have decided to buy a church for $10,000
But now in the last few days Lithuanians began to talk about one of the most important organization that should be established among us, the Lithuanian Building and Loan Association. Rev. Kranczunas called a meeting of a few Lithuanians and now they are working on the constitution. When the plans are ready for such organization, the meeting will be called for the final organization of this society.
Such financial organization is one of the best for Lithuanians. We are living in this country. Why then should we give our money to others? They are making profits and building up their business with our money. Why then cannot we make our money work for us. We are buying buildings, lots, looking for leans. Why then must we pay interest to others, when we can pay it to our-selves?
3Many Lithuanians lost their money in Jewish banks, but the money cannot be lost in a building and loan association.
This coming Sunday a meeting of this new financing organization will be held. If our Lithuanians want to protect their own money they should come to this meeting, hear the plans and discussions, Join this organization, and help to build the Lithuanian business.
